H! LynnRose, You need Google Chrome to install apps, extensions and themes. I don't think so

I don't mind using Google Chrome if I have to. I have it installed already, but only used it once or twice

I went through all the rigmarole of installing Chrome, creating a username and pasword, then on the log-in page it wouldn't accept them. It wanted my Facebook details instead to log-in, and as I'm not on Facebook and have no intention of ever joining, that put paid to that. Uninstalled. ;D

I accidently installed Chrome a little while back Elvis, tried it and chucked it. IE9 x 64 does me when I need a second browser, I use MSN Premium most of the time anyway and IE9 if I need to surf for information. Google is my home page and my favourite search engine. My mobile is Android, so I'm stuck with Chrome on that. Anyway I run more Linux on my network than you've got. When I'm as clever as Mikk, I might start crowing about it. As I'm not I will keep my trap shut.

It's actually not bad - and Nocky, it is billed as the OS for people who live on the web, so the facebook login is assumed - sorry about that.
Chrome is not forced on you, but it is the only one installed by default and isn't too bad once you get round the hideous favourites/bookmark situation that basically forces you to use a bookmarks toolbar for quick access
As a Linux purist and hater of South African millionaires with hidden agendas, I have a natural aversion to anything Ubuntu flavoured, but I'm not going to cut off my nose to spite my face and will try to give a fair assessment of it.
It has an almost comic book type interface which is quite pleasing to the eye but not totally intuitive to use. I spent a few minutes investigating all the buttons and discovered the following (from left to right)
Giant + sign means add new software - used for adding programs
What looks like an inverted lamp shade with an A in it - takes you back to the opening screen with your favourite apps on it
A satellite dish - which appears to be almost solely for 'twitterers'
What seems to be a badly drawn tank (of the military vehicle type) but is supposed to be a folder - is for organising your disk drives etc
And a final cog icon - for checking your 'joli' account and other 'joli' devices
On the first screen there are two white dots near the bottom, which I guessed (rightly) were access to page 2 of your favourite programs. Not exactly very clear though. Obviously it was full of *their* favourite programs including the NY Times which I have no interest in at all, so I started deleting them and discovered they don't automatically move from page 2 into the gaps on page 1
I picked an app up from page 2 and dropped it onto the tiny white dot for page one - it worked, but that was just a lucky (educated) guess.
I discovered lots of other things I won't bore you with right now and I haven't even mentioned it's true claim to fame yet i.e the cloud bit in 'jolicloud' which signifies cloud computing - a system where most of the apps are supposed to be online and accessed through a browser. This comes as a 700 MB download and is clearly not cloud computing, it's just a modified (much prettier) Ubuntu with a 'PC Anywhere' type ability to access your data from another device.
If you think of it as a dumbed down version of Linux, it's pretty good and may entice a few more Windows users to have an alternative OS to hand, but if you don't have a facebook account, look for another version of Linux

Thanks for clearing that up mikkh, I was thinking I'd mucked it up somehow, need to pay more attention in future.
