I don't use PSP, but does this page help Pat? www.hypergurl.com/maskbasics.htmlOr there's quite a number of tutorials for them here at About.com. Looking at them I would think as you're already into making tags and things, you have possibly made and used them before, but maybe didn't know what terminology others used for what you'd done.

Thanks Roz, I think I've been doing it in my own way and didn't know what I was doing. I've not used the mask function, but made my own layers which are masks. If that makes sense. I've just blundered my way along, finding ways of doing things without reading any tuts. It might be a bit easier if I read a bit more.

Yes, I pretty much normally do my own thing in Photoshop too Ken, but just occasionally I do search to see how to do something.
As for layers, I use them all the time and lots of them. I often double up on some so that it's easy to go back to if I make a mega blunder on one lol.

I make each one in turn Roz and when I like it I merge it. Then I do any cloning that needs to be done and when I'm satisfied, I work on my next layer. I often scap pictures and start again, arriving at what I want but put together differently. I'm getting there now where I can tell which way to start on different subjects and I'm scapping less. I often fiinish up with something different to what I had planned before I started.
