Use a pocket drive to transfer files Elvis, its easier than setting up a VPN. You have got Win7 on both Nightmare and your laptop, so they will network easily. Are you planning a bigger network??

Hmm, typical geek speak for no reason on the forums - no wonder people get lost in Linux
'aptitude' is not usually installed by default, because there are far more friendlier options available
Then you are told to use 'apt-get' which is a more usable and easier to understand command, but again there's no real need when there's a GUI utility called Synaptic to use. You also have an even more user friendly Synaptic type utility in Mint called 'software manager' - so why are they trying to force you to use the command line?
I'm pretty sure 'synaptic' is already installed, but if it's not, you can use this command to get it
sudo apt-get install synaptic
Then never worry about command line software installation again - just use synaptic or software manager instead.
