If you dual boot Windows and Linux and you find your 'grub' bootloader missing after doing a Windows reinstall, here's a way of getting it back
Grub must have been installed in the first place for it to work, so if you get errors 'lilo' was probably used instead - grub is the more common though
You'll need a 'live' CD to boot the PC - I used PClinuxOS
Once booted, log in as 'root' (administrator)
Open a console/terminal window and type
grub
Wait for it to initialise
find /boot/grub/stage2
(this will tell you the partition number Linux was installed on)
root (hd0,?)
(where ? is the number revealed from the previous command
setup (hd0)
(reinstall grub to MBR)
quit
(you're done - now reboot)
