Congratulations sweetheart, Linux *is* for everyone - if they could be bothered
Sadly most people fall at the first hurdle i.e having to do a bit of research
Glad you like it, and stuck with it long enough to succeed - well done

Tiny problem so far.... first time i booted it gave me the option to boot into linux or xp, now when i boot up its so fast it boots straight into linux, not a great problem but ive lost the choice now. and the wireless doesnt work, though I assume i need to do something, and again not comfortable with wireless so using ethernet.

It's probably using a Grub bootloader that's hidden (on screen that is)
It should flash up a message, but it does tend to be rather brief and you may have missed it
The message would be "Press Escape to see menu" or something similar

Managed it, I edited the boot/grub/menu.lst and set timeout to 10 instead of 0, and now I can boot into xp if ever i want to. Though I dont suppose it will be often.

Yes that's a bit naughty of them, it's like saying you have a choice - but you don't really
... and well done on finding your own cure. It's much more satisfying and liable to stick in your memory better that way

Cant get the wireless dongle to work, and have found a little thread installing Mint 7 on the eee pc 900 specifically, and apparently the wireless works out the box, I should never have deviated from mint. so Im gonna try it on the netbook sometime this week. One question Mikkh....I followed a walk through to put easy peasy on a usb drive, i can follow same tut and just use mint cant i?

Should be possible using the Mint ISO instead I should think.
it's definitely more fun than Windows anyway ;o)

running the live version of mint 7 on the netbook its as good as the desktop. one thing still niggles, wired internet works, wireless works, finds a network easy. but the dongle installed fine from what i can see, but wont connect. still has me puzzled. may work once i install m7? hope so cos thats my next step. Ill stick with Mint I think.
