Well heres a cracker for you.
I cant switch Automatic Updates on
Running XP Pro
This is the advice Microsoft gave me
Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
In the list of services, click Automatic Updates, and make sure that the Status column displays Started, and that the Startup Type column displays Automatic.
In the list of services, click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and make sure that the Status column displays Started, and that the Startup Type column displays Automatic.
If the startup type for the Automatic Updates service is not set to Automatic, or if the service is not started, follow these steps:
Right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.
In the Automatic Updates Properties dialog box, click the General tab, and then click Automatic in the Startup Type list.
Click Start, click Apply, and then click OK.
If the startup type for the BITS service is not set to Automatic, or if the service is not started, follow these steps:
Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.
In the Background Intelligent Transfer Service Properties dialog box, click the General tab, and then click Automatic in the Startup Type list.
Click Start, click Apply, and then click OK.
Make sure that the NoAutoUpdate registry entry is enabled in the registry. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
In the left pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
In the right pane, double-click NoAutoUpdate, and make sure that the Value data box contains a value of 0.
If the Value data box contains a value of 1, type 0 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
Exit Registry Editor.
Have done all that but on rebooting The Background Intelligent Transfer Service reverts back to Manual and i keep getting the message saying that it cant turn the updates back on
Am i going mad or is Microsoft playing with my head ....lol
Thanks
Rgds
