Suggest first you look in Task Manager (Right Click on Tool Bar) and see what processes are running. Mayber there are some which you don't use causing problem. Then go to Start then Run and type in msconfig click the startup tab and see what is starting, remove ticks for all the things you don't want to run and then rebbot and see if that answers the problem. If not then download and run Hijackthis and send the list to here

this problem actually applies to my sons PC - he had a very bad head injury some years ago and while making a good recovery he is left with minor problems, basically he is slow at learning! I went to his flat today fully intending to crack this PC problem but when I tried it wasnt long before I realised this was going over the top of my head. I couldnt seem to get the conditions up that you were tasking me with, so I got onto Mcafee and asked for help - they sent me a link which I thought was a patch it took the rest of the morning and all afternoon to download and when I called back to see progress it was still downloading so I contacted support again for chat online and this time they said Mcafee was working ok - to contact our vendor. I cant really do this as while the pc is Dell it was bought cheaply from sons work as they were upgrading their machines and there is NO guarantee. It would appear Mcafee were suggesing two things 1. to contact their virus removal team (they would take over the pc) at a cost to me of £50 I cant afford or justify this as it may not be a virus anyway. 2. suggestion it may be a windows problem I assume by this they mean MSN??? The PC does close down normally on occasions its only sometimes it has to be crashed, so I have told my son to see how it goes over the next few days and we will go from there. I am disappointed with Mcafee and their response it seems from this afternoons chat it was not a patch I was being sent but a link which would clear all temp files and cookies which I could have done myself. I felt a body rather than a person they were interested in, this morning I felt they were genuinely trying to help and only phoned back at their suggestion if I still had a problem. Thanks for your time fingers x it may or not be resolved Plucky

Your welcome. Your security has been superceeded by the apps I have suggested. When things are not working its time to move on. Add C Cleaner and it will get rid of all the rubbish as well. You can download that from this link, use the latest version in the top righthand corner: www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/KC

From what you say, I think theres a good chance the system is well and truly infected. Its probably not one bad infection, but a number of lesser ones. Malwarebytes AntiMalware will wipe them out. Super AntiSpyware will clean up anything else. C Cleaner will get rid of all the junk. You should turnoff System Restore and enable it again after cleaning. Although MBAM is one of the few anti-malware programs that cleans out the restore files as well.

Both Macaffee and Spybot are not a lot of good these days. Personally I have thought Spybot has been pretty usless for years. McAffee were good untill about 6 or 7 years ago and now they are well down the list. The ones I have suggested are the top guns these days.

If you are using the full McAffee security suite and change to Avast, you wont have a firewall. I suggest you download Comodo from this link: www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/firewall.html. This suite contains an Antivirus as well. Dont install it, just the Firewall. KC
