Recently when I shut down my machine I get a message box stating "Unclean Shutdown" and having Googled for an explanation it seems to be more prevelant in Linnux (which I don't have). On the PC Advisor forum, one subscriber has suggested that this problem is caused by 'MailWasher Pro' which I have used for a long time, but no solution was offered. The machine seems to be functioning satisfactorily and scans done with "MalwareBytes" - "SUPERantispyware" and "Avast a/v" indicate that there are no problems. Any help with this enigma would be appreciated.
Thank-You.
PS - this is the 3rd time I have posted this, previous attempts have disappeared into the ether?

Normally Windows waits for everything to shut down before closing itself Buz. It would seem that Windows is closing while Mailwasher is running. Thats the cause, but I have never used Mailwasher, so I dont have a clue what to do about it. There should be something in Mailwasher Options, to get it to close when the mailbox closes. I'm only guessing a bit here. They might have forgotton to add a stop button to the motor. If its in the startup, take it out and if its on automatic in Services set it to manual.

Ken / Elvis, many thanks.
Apparently this is a know problem which the writers are attempting to solve. I picked up the following on their support forum after posting here.
"MW has had trouble with PC shut downs for a while, I'd recommend you exit MW first before shutting down.
When your PC shuts down it sends close commands to running programs and gives them a certain amount of time to close, if they don't then Windows just closes them and this can cause problems especially with programs (like MailWasher) that has a lot of tasks to perform when it closes. It's not very smart design on our part, we'll be trying to make the tasks MW needs to perform when closing fewer and quicker in future"

.... and 'unclean shutdown' has never been the fault of Linux in any way - even if you did have it installed.
Linux knows if it's occurred, but doesn't cause it, and even offers tips on how to fix it
So don't be bad mouthing my OS (and spelling it wrong) or I'll send the boys round :-p
