Hi Guys, The latest Win10 update refuses to install. It configures the system up to 30%; then restarts and ends up with black screen with Win10 logo and everything is locked. The only way to get out of that is to Image restore, but that gets me in the same loop again. It downloads the update automatically and then "here we go again"!!! I have Googled the problem and there are literally 100s of identical problems. Rumour has it that the Microsoft has made some AMD chips obsolete and is not even looking for a fix.
I would like to know is there any truth in this and is it feasible to install the latest AMD chip, much as I hate to have to submit to Microsoft. What would the cost be in new chip and installation?
Many thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex, First thing to tell you is that my update went okay without such problems, but I did put it off as long as I could. Looks to me like you have done your best to locate the fault, looks like slowly slowly catch the monkey time, best check drives for any errors too. All the best with it Pete.

Hi Pete, A vital piece of information I would like to know is what AMD Athlon chip are you running. I think mine is 2 and the higher versions are not affected. Secondly, how did you delay the update? As far as I can see, it is automatic and the only way to delay is not to use Windows 10. Many thanks, Alex

In that case, you may not have had the same problem. I am running AMD AM2,Win10 32bit, which the Windows forum claims has been made incompatible by the latest Win10 update. Microsoft are neither confirming nor denying, of course, and if they are working on a fix, they are not telling us. I am using Linux Mate at the moment, which is absolutely trouble free and has all the applications that I need. I can live without Windows for a long time. It is not very difficult to replace AM2 chip with a higher grade. Thanks again, Alex

Windows 10 is not worth altering your computer for, if M$ dont fix it, use Linux until the next version of Windows comes out. I'm still using Windows 7, I will use Linux if it ever becomes unusable and M$ haven't come up with a civilised edition of Windows.
With the advent of the tablet, Windows is going out of fashion anyway

My sentiments exactly, Vikingken. I was running Win7 and could still go back to it, but I was tempted to update to Win10 whilst the "free offer" was still available. That caused some of my favourite applications to become incompatible (outdated) and that caused some problems in the beginning. Since then Win10 worked well, except for updates, which, unfortunately cannot be stopped.
