Hi guys,
I have just received a call from BT Open Reach and a Chinese woman told me that the hackers are stealing my confidential information and that they (BT) will cut me off! The woman rang from a mobile No. 0778 696 8888. The line very bad and her voice breaking up, but I could hear other people talking, so I assume the call was coming from some call centre. In that case, why use a mobile? As you can see, I have not been disconnected. I suspect PCLinuxOS is too complicated for the hackers. Seriously though, I would appreciate any advice on this. Should I just ignore the call or should I report it and to whom?

Personally I would ignore it. If I was going to report it, I would call BT, but I dont speak Chinese.

Just a few comments I found, if in doubt google the number
Asian accent woman said they are BT OpenReach monitoring my line and that my computer has an infection. They were well prepared for my scepticism. Wanted me to use my computer to go to a web page to verify they were BT. Seemed a very obvious scam to get me to download malware. Not the first time that I have received such a call the day after an Indian call centre handled a genuine query for my broadband ISP (not BT).

Numerous calls from this number saying they want to look into computer. The computer is mine but have an 89 year old mother at home who keeps getting at least 15 calls per day for the last 3 days. These call centres should be shut down and owners fined very heavily. They don't like taking no for an answer and get aggressive. complete scam as no reply to number as doesn't exist when you ring it. VERY DANGEROUS.

Had a call this morning from an Asian lady saying she was from BT Open Reach. She said I have a problem with my internet and I had to switch on my computer to sort the problem. Straing as my pc was already on. At the moment I have some issues with my internet and an engineer will come this afternoon. When I said I will wait for the enginner today she hang up. Definately a scam.

I keep getting calls several times a day for the past week now from people claiming to be BT open reach. When I dialled 1471, this was the number: 07786 868888. It is infuriating when you're trying to run a business and hoax calls are blocking the lines. I never stay on the line long enough to find out what scam they're trying to pull.

128 calls 'from' this number in just over an hour to one of our telecoms customers, although suspect it is number presentation. Had to divert all calls to voicemail.
