Seems M$ have quietly stopped W7 or made it difficult to find.
There doesn't seem to be a lot co concrete information on this. Apparently people now need to by W8 and then pay for a Down-Grade!!
Is this for real?
Apologies if this matter has been raised already. Like to know what's happening. Been offered some rather interesting software which will only run on W7.

Thanks. I'm downloading it now.
I looked in M$ site and all they seemed to have were copies of W8.
I see I can run this one for a short time before activating it, so that will hopefully be enough time to check out my software.

But you do have to sign up to the site in order to download it. Either way MS hotfixes are very overrated at the best of times.

mikkh
This download is due to take 21 hours.
Do you know if there are any other sources of W7 with the hotfix?

This is the detail of the hotfix as far as I can see:
This seems to suggest the hotfix is for media version of W7. Or am I missing something?

Yeah it's not very clear, the 'media refresh' version is the U version - or standard Win SP1 7 ISO's with a hotfix shoe-horned in, as far as I can tell
I can't remember where I got mine from, but it wasn't a long download. And I think I'm guilty of grabbing them without reading properly
I get sidetracked sometimes, like just now seeing SP1 and googling whether Windows 7 ever got SP2 - It didn't apparently, and Microsoft have no intention of ever releasing one with Windows 9 on it's way (allegedly) Windows 7 is the next XP whether Microsoft like it or not, it's only 4 years old and destined to last just as long, maybe longer than XP in my opinion

Thanks mikkh. Given that M$ may be planning to push W7 out of the picture might be a reason to buy a licence for it on my current machine. I always expected some software to arrive on the scene, which won't run on XP and it's happened. My experiences with W7 on my wife's laptop are not good frankly. This machine was designed to use Vista, I bought a copy of XP after getting tired of Vista. Though old, it will probably last a while yet and by the time I'm in a position to buy a new machine (shortly after the cows come home), the talk will be on W13. I doubt Linux will get its act together in my lifetime, which is sad and with the numbers continuing to throw their cash to the Apple-Gates, it seems unlikely that little cash cow will develop a user friendly business plan. My intention is to install W7 on a separate SSD and keep XP on the one I'm currently using. I'll use a hardware switch to change over. It won't happen in the immediate term though. Perhaps later this year. In the mean time, I'll install the download I have and check out my software. Incidentally, This is what I hope to run: store.zaonce.net/elite-dangerous-cat/elite-dangerous-standard-beta.html

I never got into Elite the first time round and looking at the very vague specs required to run this latest incarnation, you may be struggling to run it smoothly It says minimum quad core, 2 GB RAM (but then states more is better rather obviously) and a DX 10 capable graphics card, which is practically anything built in the last 5 years or so and a slight embellishment of the truth. It will almost certainly need a minimum mid range card (something costing between £60 to £100) to get the required FPS

I think you're right mikkh. I play a number of these online graphical games and have found they invariably have built in tools to alter the resolutions, so reducing load. My graphics card cost a whopping £19.99 so is far below the minimal demands. But as I said, hoping to be able to have a look around with what I have.
Hence the cunning plan to use W7 during the 30 day grace period.
Elite is a matter of taste really. I disliked the combat in the original, principally because the lag was terrible. I know people who compensated well for that, though I never managed it. But the trading aspect I did rather like. It appeals to the secret capitalist pig in me. This version has promised a number of dedicated roles, rather than the fait acompli of the original, in that characters can be designed for specific roles, Combat, mercenary, trader and rogue. *
As I said, the trader appeals to my inner Gordon Gekko. I don't need to play at rogue, or so some tell me!
addition: Made a mistake. I should have said Combat, bounty hunter, trader and rogue.
