Hi Zippied, altho i swear by the likes of bleeping comp forum, and major geeks too, i personally would never use a registry scan. im gonna go find the previous post and think again about what to advise. hang fire.
That previous posting was just to show u that what ur problem was just needed disabling from start up.

I know a lot of members do not like registry cleaners but I have used regscrub which you can get here majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048for a few years now on xp and I have never had a problem with it. So if you want one I'd use that one if you are using xp but not if your on vista.

The problem with registry cleaners/defraggers/optimisers is that the majority of people who use one aren't exactly sure what the registry does - or how vital it is to Windows.
With a recognised program, that isn't a problem (usually) but I have to question any benefits of using one regularly on the basis of my own research into them.
I'm all for tweaking the system if it proves worthwhile and on a system that's been used for 6 months or more, there is a slight benefit of using one, especially if you've installed, then unistalled lots of programs - but there's a slight risk of damaging the single most important part of Windows too.
I don't use any myself, mostly because I prefer to use a clean backup or just reinstall from scratch on a fairly regular basis - none of my systems are on for more than 6 months usually, unless I haven't used it in a while.
If you must use one
a) use a widely accepted program
b) don't use it more than once a month, unless you're a new software junkie who tries lots of different software on a regular basis.
c) learn how to backup the registry in case of accidents
d) consider a fresh install as a better alternative - kills 99.9% of Windows problems
