Let's brush up on our History shall we. One event each a day please....so what happened in History on today's date in the past...
I have picked this historical event
5th March 1133 The birth of King Henry II, who was to become the first Plantagenet king of England.
You have half an hour to find another past event for 5th March, otherwise it has to be the 6th March.

6 March 1899 : Bayer patents aspirin On this day in 1899, the Imperial Patent Office in Berlin registers Aspirin, the brand name for acetylsalicylic acid, on behalf of the German pharmaceutical company Friedrich Bayer & Co. Now the most common drug in household medicine cabinets, acetylsalicylic acid was originally made from a chemical found in the bark of willow trees. In its primitive form, the active ingredient, salicin, was used for centuries in folk medicine, beginning in ancient Greece when Hippocrates used it to relieve pain and fever.

On a more local note (thanks to my fishing diaries)
March 6th 1983
Weather 11 degrees C, cloudy with occasional showers, wind virtually non existent
Wilford power station chimney demolished - the end of an era (for good fishing there)
The power station pumped warm water into the river producing an attractive gathering place for a lot of fish - mainly Carp.
Today (or at least the last time I looked) the 6 foot channel the outflow kept free of weeds and other debris is now silted up beyond recognition and actually has trees growing on it.
The pumps had been switched off weeks before, but I just fancied a trip to my old haunt, a place with many happy memories. The weather was warm enough to guarantee a few fish but the extra activity on the banks, not to mention the explosion, meant I caught absolutely nothing that day

Samuel Pepys diary, 6 March 1660
"At the office all the morning. At dinner Sir W. Batten came and took me and my wife to his house to dinner, my Lady being in the country, where we had a good Lenten dinner. Then to Whitehall with Captn. Cuttle, and there I did some business with Mr. Coventry, and after that home, thinking to have had Sir W. Batten, &c., to have eat a wigg at my house at night. But my Lady being come home out of the country ill by reason of much rain that has fallen lately, and the waters being very high, we could not, and so I home and to bed".
Marcus ... I managed two wiggs for dinner today (6 March 2011), they were awful !

Doukhobor bomb blast ignites fear in B.C.
Broadcast Date: March 7, 1962 Starting in the 1920s, a British Columbia sect of Doukhobors known as the Sons of Freedom fought for peace with bombs and arson, and by stripping off their clothes for defiant naked public marches. Their targets were schools, government buildings and other sects of Doukhobors. On March 6, 1962, the Sons of Freedom are the prime suspects when a 100-metre power transmission tower is blown apart, cutting power to thousands. CBC Radio reports on the bombing that would lead to the end of the violence.

My apology, Nocky, and all CIT.
I just don't know what day it is most of the time, must be mesmerised by Pancake Day. As you will gradually realise I suffer from a breathtaking mixture of suicidal irresponsibility and farcical incoherence! (laughing).
Hope to return to the correct day tomorrow.... see, what date will it be?
Best wishes.
