Hi all. Someone asked me today, what is the difference between Facebook and a Blog? Now I confess, I have never used Facebook and rarely a blog. But the more I think about it and research what Facebook offers, the further I am from seeing any distinction. As far as I can see, the only advantage of Facebook over a blog is Facebook is all on one site. But that can hardly explain or justify it being worth so much. Now, a serious question. Can anyone explain to me what makes Facebook so unique? I'm not looking for any argument, nor persuasion. I'm sure Facebook is absolutely wonderful. I absolutely promise I won't do an Apple sort of rant. I just need to understand this point.

Don't worry, I probably shouldn't have asked that here.

Not a problem asking here Jojo I guess the difference is FB is just for quick messaging and keeping in contact with friends and family and businesses use it for quick advertising Blogs are more like an online diary/journal web page

The difference is a blog is generally about one subject and like Lynnrose says more akin to a personal online diary whereas FB tends to be more interactive and can cover any subject between 'friends' and family. Teenagers especially have hundreds sometimes thousands of 'friends' - people they barely know or don't even know at all, as they play the rather silly I've got more 'friends' than you game. I've got about 30 or so people on my FB, people I actually know !
The games on FB invariably revolve around 'friends' helping which can get rather intrusive as you handle the various requests that flood in every day. And nearly all games lean towards trying to get you to buy FB credits in a not very subtle way. The basic idea of FB is fine, but it's a cold calculating money making machine if you get sucked into the hype

Thank you both.
I did look at a friend's page and it seemed to be a lot more interactive with others than a blog.
But I do appreciate your contributions.

The basic idea is pretty good and having my teenage daughter on mine - her idea, I learn a lot more about her than she would ever tell me normally and get to see all the mountain of pictures teenagers have a habit of taking! That's good for me because i split up with her mother a long time ago and I feel more part of her life now. Good old facebook

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim I had to stop for the night There she stood in the doorway; I heard the mission bell And I was thinking to myself, this could be heaven or this could be hell Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way There were voices down the corridor, I thought I heard them say...

I've recently been looking at some pictures posted by my niece of Facebook.
Needless to say, they are mostly of herself.
I know it incredibly popular with your people, especially. I just can't quite get into the idea of a blog. My life is pretty boring and what there is, I'm not so sure I want to share with the world.
I also notice that Twitter seems to be big time. (I know many will be thinking, Twitter! This guy's such a looser).
I have not personal problems with any of these, I thought perhaps, some might think I was having another Apple moment, ready to arm the guns to shoot down the monoliths!. But no, I really just wanted to see what it was.
Loved seeing the pics of my niece, needless to say, but the problem of having to wait for her to post what she chooses means I am still waiting for some decent pictures of her daughters.
C'est la vie.
