Today we could save the free Internet and stop the US Congress passing a law that gives them the power to censor the world's Internet. Public pressure is at boiling point and we are turning the tide. Let's stop the bill now -- sign the petition!

I signed it.
But it's really only a matter of time before the net gets completely blocked up. Sorry to say, but it seems that for most, freedom is about what they can get for free.
Like many, here especially, I recall the early days of the net, in the 90s. A lot of nasty stuff to be sure, but also so much else. So many said, this simply couldn't go on.
With the fall of several governments in the ME, largely (apparently), because of the net, not to mention, it being blamed for spreading information which some have claimed has encouraged or assisted terrorists, it's little surprise that governments will try to stop it.
The copyright argument is way over played. Be silly to get into any figures since that drum is being beaten by the anti-capitalist types, between their muesli and where to put their tents.
But as has happened so often in the past, one issue is highlighted and exaggerated to suppress unauthorised freedoms.
Never-the-less, it's right that we should go down with reluctance and some objections.
