Elgar £20 note no longer legal tender
Have a look in your wallet: any £20 notes with the image of Edward Elgar on them will not be legal tender after June 30 this year.
After June 30 if a bank or building society refuses to swap a note, consumers have the right to swap the notes at the Bank of England itself. The Bank promises that it will honour the face value of any note issued, even notes from before the Second World War.

50p? Nah! They're bound to be worth at least a fiver - I promise to pay the bearer .... etc
Between £50 and £120 depending on condition according to WikiAnswers
The rarest ones are regional like the 1849 Newcastle one sold for £10,000
You got any of them in your collection Ken?

My granddad had quite a few white fivers Mikk, when he died in 1962. I dunno what my grandmother did with them, none come my way.
My only claim to fame, I've got the 2 groats struck for William IV in 1836 and 1837 and 7 Victoria groats including the last Colonial issue stuck in 1888. I have also got a Victoria 1838 three-ha-pence and a 1844 half farthing, the only copper coin in my silver collection. I hope my groats are worth a bit more than 4d now, I know I paid a lot more for them.
My pride and joy is all 7 silver coins struck for Victoria's jubilee in 1887 and I had to go to Israel to get the double florin at a sensible price.
I dont collect notes, they seem to go out of my wallet faster than I can put them in.

I came accross this news about the £20 a day or so ago, on a holiday site I am a member off. Apparently a few days ago in 2 resorts in Majorica ( excuse spelling ) NO buro de exchange ( again excuse spelling) would accept ANY £20 notes causing some panick from UK holiday makers.......Of course now its been an over reaction by the resorts, and hopefully been sorted out.........to only include the " edgar " ones . Like many uk holiday makers i too travel with some UK £20's, and wouldnt have liked to have found myself in that situation, while abroad
Harry
{ note to myself } only 38 posts..............must try harder
