I have given in and bought a laptop Emachines it is working fine but what I wanted to know where can I find *.tmp,*.chk,~*.* files , used to have no problem with old pc just typed it in to the serch thingy but not the same with vista basic any ideas folks

Clicking the start icon then the 'start search' box, I can find any file on this Vista Basic laptop, no problems. But it returns no results for .tmp and .chk . returns everything, as it should.
