Interesting and yet disappointing list to say they're allegedly all 5 star
6 PDF viewers? really! - this is one of the disappointing (and confusing) ones. How much PDF viewing does the average person do? And just how easy is it to get 5 stars? I'm pretty sure there are several of those I'd mark down to 4.5 or less and my favourite freeware one isn't even in that list - it's Evince btw
VMWare player gets an honourable mention? For what?? For being a crippled virtual machine player that is only of use to people with existing snapshots! it should be VirtualBox if anything - totally free, fully functioning creator and player of virtual machines, and it's a lot smaller than VMWare player. Seems the majorgeeks aren't geeky enough for me
Speccy - Nice attempt, but not 5 stars IMO. I tried it once to try and identify the graphics card in a machine. It gave me lots of information I didn't want but had no idea what graphics card it was.
The virus checker section has the usual suspects, makes me wonder what AVG's bribe bill is like because it seems to get mentioned everywhere. It's an awful bloated mess with poor detection rates I see it frequently on PC's I'm cleaning viruses off, so thanks for the business Grisoft ;o) Panda cloud is the current checker of choice for people wanting to avoid bloat. If you're really struggling to make an old machine run, then I would suggest you install the ultra light Immunet
