DDR RAM will work better with a matched pair than an odd pair Elvis. So a matched pair of good quality 1 gig, will probably be better than 3 gig. A matched pair of 2 gig, you lose 0.5 gig, but they are still a pair.

H! KC.
I am going to order 4GB DDR soon (see below)
All MSI (Micro Star) P6NGM Memory Upgrades (RAM) / CT761795
Memory Upgrade for the MSI (Micro Star) P6NGM Motherboard 2GB, 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400 memory module
2GB, 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400 memory module CT25664AA800 Module Size: 2GB Package: 240-pin DIMM Feature: DDR2 PC2-6400 Specs: DDR2 PC2-6400 • CL=6 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 •
£19.54 inc. VAT* 240-pin DDR2 DIMM Banking: 2 (2 banks of 1) Chipset: nVidia MCP73U/PV/V DDR2 SDRAM Frequencies: PC2-4200, PC2-5300, and PC2-6400 Error Detection Support: Non-ECC only Graphics Support: PCI Express x16 Max Component Density: 1024 Max Unbuffered DDR2 SDRAM: 4096MB Module Types Supported: Unbuffered only Supported DRAM Types: DDR2 SDRAM only USB Support: 2.x Compliant
But when i look in the manual (see below) it says
Memory support
DDR2 533/667/800 SDRAM (240pin/ non-ECC) (for 73U/PV) DDR2 533/667 SDRAM (240pin/ non-ECC) (for 73v) 2 DDR2 DIMMs (4GB Max)
Now wear it says "DDR2 533/667/800 SDRAM (240pin/ non-ECC) (for 73U/PV)" is that the same as "2GB, 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400 memory module what i am trying to say is will thy be compatible with my motherboard?
All help is gratefully received.

Yeah Elvis, PC2-6400 is DDR2 800MHz SDRAM (240pin/non-ECC.) You would be better off spending a couple of bob more and getting Kingston. Kingston HyperX is going for about £40/£42 for 4 gig.

Its just a brand name Elvis, but its quality over average. If it wont run properly on that, there has to be something else wrong. Corsair is another good brand, I would definately go with a branded type than genaric stuff.

Crucial are good Elvis, of course they will scan your computer and tell you what your options are for upgrading. The results of their scan, might even reveal a fault with one of your modules. ie:- If it shows you are using 1.5 gig and you have 2 gig installed. Although I think thats a long shot as your computer is showing 2.

It will go through the letterbox, even if your not there Elvis.
I'm expecting a new PSU from Scan tomorrow, 160 quids worth. Although The Beast has got a 850 watt PSU, it was made before the HD4870 graphics card came out. Having to jury rig one of the 80 watt graphics connectors, I'm sure I'm putting a strain on one of the rails. I seem to be getting a kick back through the system now. With the new 1500 watt PSU with all the right connectors, it should solve all my problems. Overpowering is better than under-powering. I have enough to run 2 HD48 series graphics cards, if I want to. I have got to strip the machine down to the bone to rewire it, a house is easier than that machine. Having built it once, I now know exactly where all the cables have to go. You have to put all the cables in and build the machine on the top afterwards, to do the job properly. I should have built a Nightmare, it would have been so easy.

The new PSU is on its way for delivery tomorrow Elvis. I hope it comes early, so I can get it working before going to darts. I have disconnected everything I dont need to run The Beast and got my correct voltages back. The machine is working faster again, so it was lack of power that was causing me grief. Its not the total power that counts, its how it is distributed to the componants.

The lighting in the hood are going to go dim when you fire up the beast after that install KC.
I was pretty lucky with my Thermaltake cable management 750 watter. It had nearly all the cables and connectors I needed to run everything with correct voltages. The only shortfall was the two extra connectors for the second graphics card, but as none of the molineau connectors were in use, using a couple of those with the supplied adapters did the trick.

I took them at their word and didn't do enough research Kev. They say you need at least a 550 watt to run this card and I'm thinking, well I've got an 850 watt. I think if you had one hard drive, one optical drive and a very expensive PSU, you would be pushed to run a HD4870 on 550 watt. This 850 watt was quite cheap, but them monster cards weren't out then. This new PSU was £160.54 and I have got a little bit more than I need right now. I looked at about 40, ranging from £125 to £300 and this one seemed to be the best for what I need. I doubt I will put another graphics card in, but I might go to 6 hard drives. This one will walk that.
