I paid £45.87 at Tescos Jorg. We are getting the full version and the $49.99 version in the States was the upgrade. So we are not really getting ripped off like I thought. I dont quite understand about the EEC making it illegal to sell it with IE8 included. Windows has always included a browser. Anyway, its no hardship to download a free browser of you own choice. The dispatch date is the 19/10/09 for next day delivery.
I will try it on The Beast, they might have the drivers sorted out by October. If it wont work, I will install it on my laptop. I'm perfectly happy running The Beast on XP x 64, it couldn't really work any better. I will probably build the next generation of Beast, when Windows 8 comes out.

Well, just my four penn'orth on this one folks, for what it's worth. Like Kevin, I started out on 3.1 on an old 386 which was as good as it got for its day, but 95, 98, 98SE, Me and 2000 followed and they all showed some improvements over the previous versions. I stayed with 2K for a long time, simply because of the holes, glitches and other problems with the first release of XP - plus I wasn't at all impressed with the so-called improvements to the GUI - eye-candy always comes with a cost implication. SP2 changed all that and XP became what it should have been in the first place, so *with a little help from my friends* I made the change to XP. Then came Vista. Oh, dear God above, what a complete farce that was, even during the pre-release period; even the corporate might of Micro$haft with all it's pull in the marketing world could not disguise the fact that it was a bosted boot to begin with. Put simply, it's something that Redmond should make every effort to put behind it as an example of how NOT to do things. Now we have W7, and yes, I was very cautious to begin with; however having used the beta version, the RC version and a hookey slipstreamed version from Utorrent I'm now quite happy that it's fit for purpose at least, and everything works as it's supposed to. Okay, it is different to XP in lots of ways, but with all the bells and whistles turned off it's not dissimilar; however the driver support, the graphics fit and built-in gadgetry really is a big improvement over SP2. Overall then; yeah, I'd be happy to part with fifty-odd quid, if for no other reason than to have the genuine COA on my box o'bits and the ability to download MS updates without having to look over my shoulder. For once, it seems that they got it right first time - but I've no doubt in my mind that there will be some "issues" in the future - there always are!!

JB, you would be one of the hardest people I know to convince to upgrade to a new operating system. The fact that you are trialling W7, says heaps for the program in my books. I love it mate, it's the best offering from M$ since XP. Getting the network operating with XP machines, is a bit of a trick but it works flawlessly once set up right. I'm sure these problems will be addressed in a later version.

I installed Win7 RC x 86 on my Intel Core 2 Duo laptop and for some strange reason it didn't like it. I then installed RC x 64 and its run perfik ever since. I love the system, but it just doesn't suit The Beast at the moment. Its only the CrossfireX on the 3 core graphics that wont work. Thats enough reason not to use it, when everything works as it should with XP x 64. There are a lot of gamers using the 3 core setup, as the gain doesn't warrant the expense of adding a 4th core. So I think AMD and M$ will have resolved the problem, before the final release comes out on 19th October.
I have still got to resolve the networking problem, between the 2 different operating systems. Your well ahead of me there Kev, but I will get there.

You can only backup data, things like docs, pics, MP3's, videos etc. Any favourite programs you'll have to reinstall. Remember to backup your favourites/bookmarks from your browser - most people forget. Online things like hotmail, googlemail and messenger will not be affected, just make sure you remember your passwords to login in the new OS

It went like hot cakes, I think the bargains are all gone. Amazons £69.98 looks about the best buy now. I dont think it will ever get any cheaper, once it comes out.

Thanks Ken. Just been on Dabs website and the only W7 offer is one that says, 'buy a new PC and reserve your right to a free OS upgrade when W7 is available'.
Got a server error (runtime) when I clicked the link on your post.
Guess I'll go for Amazon before that diappears as well - its still a good offer.
Thanks again.

Sorry about that Brian, pity you went to bed. The last of their stock didn't last very long.

Hello
What I would like to know is: is Windows 7 much better than VISTA ?

It could hardly be any worse. No in actual fact, it works like Vista should have done. Its fast and is excellent at finding its own drivers for everything. It looks the same as Vista, but behaves very differently. Its a great choice for smaller computers, I'm still undecided for big gaming machines.

I would say it's better too - especially for drivers, but it also feels a lot quicker than Vista
Deja vu with Windows ME !
